Pets and Older people
Project lead: Dr Janette Young
This project is exploring the influence and impact pets have in relation to the lives of older people.
This study is exploring how pets work for older people, being part of but sometimes being crucial to creating lives that are worth living. Understanding the dynamics of how pets are so important to some older people indicates that rather than seeing pets as a frivolous side factor in their lives, we are able to understand the joys, dilemmas and needs of older pet guardians, can map out how services support them in this role, and give consideration to how to care for the animals they care about as well.
